Hi! I’m glad you’re here.
There are 5 things you need to know about me:
First: I’m a wife to a wonderful man for almost 35 years, and a mother to 5 very strong, independent daughters. I started off my adult life as a social worker, but once we started our family, I knew I wanted only to be home with my daughters. I know what it’s like to have a crazy, busy household. Most of my girls are grown now, and two of them are married, each with a little one of her own. I love spending time with my family, and I love gardening, and you’ll find lots of gardening references on my blog and in photographs!
Second, I’ve learned that it’s not enough for me to have all my pictures of me or my family on my phone or computer. I need them in print, on my walls, shelves, in albums. I love seeing how my family has changed, grown, and added members. I love holding prints and thumbing through albums, seeing every day this legacy that my husband and I have created through the grace of God.
Third, I need to be in some of my family photos, and have some photos of me, too. I don’t think this is selfish! Early in our family life, I wasn’t in my family’s photos much, because I took the pictures. I regret that. I want my grandchildren, or even just my kids, to have some photos with me in them, too.
Fourth, I know how women feel about being photographed, because I’ve been there (and still go there). I care about the same thing you care about: how we look in our photographs. I want to look as good as I can in my photos, even if I’ve gained weight, or have some lines in my face. Because of that, I do everything I can to make you feel beautiful in your photos; with lighting, posing, arranging people, clothing ideas, optional hair and makeup, great expression, and giving appropriate instruction and encouragement. I help you get the best you possible.
Fifth, I am so aware that life’s short, and I try to live every day thankful, knowing that. Yesterday, my family was young. Now I am a grandmother. I never know what tomorrow will bring. My mother and father have both passed away, and they meant so much to me and my kids; I’m so thankful for the photos I have with them. (See my mom and daughter on the right.) I don’t put off my family’s photography, because life changes so fast! That said, I don’t worry too much when kids are squirmy, or shy. I’m very patient. I always want people I photograph to be relaxed and not worry about the results. I guarantee, they will be good! And, if because the kids are irritable, or your husband doesn’t want to cooperate, or the wind makes a mess of your hair, then I will reshoot the session at no extra charge. No worries.
So, if you’re like me, you:
- Love your family
- Love printed photographs
- Want to some photographs with you in them
- Want to feel good about yourself in them
- Know that life changes so quickly and you don’t want to put off your photography any longer.

The sixth thing.
It doesn’t have anything to do with photography, but it does have everything to do with me.
I believe that God created each one of us uniquely and for a purpose. We have joys, and sorrows and longings through this life that sometimes are never resolved before we die, and it all means something in an eternal way. C.S. Lewis wrote, “Do you think it all meant nothing, all the longing? The longing for home? For indeed it now feels not like going, but like going back. All my life the god of the Mountain has been wooing me. Oh, look up once at least before the end and wish me joy. I am going to my lover. Do you not see now?”
Wishing you joy,

"Your photo of me, smiling in my robe wearing my grandmother’s double strand pearls, has been very effective (for my election campaign) and was used for my billboard on I-57."
"Our family loves Karen’s work! First, a LinkedIn portrait, then a senior photo for Jake, and now Mother’s Day portraits. A great investment!"
"I love how Karen found my personality through her magical lighting and lens then captured just the right sparkle in a beautiful portrait."
"Karen took some beautiful shots of our employees and company products that we’ve been able to use on our website and marketing materials. She has a way of putting her subjects at ease and getting the lighting just right. We would definitely use her again!"
"Karen's professionalism and her impeccable attention to detail to work towards the right shot is amazing. Her knowledge and talent, put into action, is really something to experience. I can't say enough about Karen's commitment to her profession; she is passionate about 'getting it right.' Thank you!"
"I want you to know that I could not have realized this dream (hope) of creating a new, dynamic brand for this venture without the exquisite images you captured. I cannot thank you enough!"
"Karen took beautiful pictures of us with our son. Since she was at our house instead of in a studio... she was much more able to be patient allowing for perfect shots to unfold. Karen brought many ideas and examples, but asked for our input as well. I loved how Karen was able to use our home as the background for many of the photos. It made them really personal and unique."
